Where is Pashupatinath Temple?

Pashupatinath Temple is located on the banks of River Bagmati. It is situated in the eastern part of Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. Pashupatinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It worships Nepal’s national deity, Lord Pashupatinath. This temple has been listed as a World Heritage Site on the list of  UNESCO.

Two priests- the Bhatts and the Bhandaris carries out the daily rituals.

The existence of the Pashupatinath Temple dates back to 400 B.C. The style of architecture of the main temple is of the Nepalese pagoda. The main idol is a stone Mukhalinga. The idol is one meter tall. It faces all the four directions. The one  facing East is called Tatpurusha. The face on the West is called Sadhyojata. The one facing South is called Aghora. The deity facing North is called Vamadeva. The uppermost portion of the Shivlinga is known as Ishan.

Maha Shiva Ratri Bala Chaturthi festival, and Teej festival are some of the most important festivals that are celebrated in Pashupatinath.
